NC Museum of Art

Camera Obscura

This is the first example of a 'Camera Obscura' that I have seen in person, and it was really an interesting experience.  This is one of the commissioned pieces of art at the museum with which visitors are allowed to interact.  To understand what this is, click on the first thumbnail which is a copy of the placard outside the exhibit.  The second image is an external view of the exhibit, the third image is what I could get of the top showing where the aperture is.  The aperture on this exhibit looks to be around an inch in diameter.  The final image is a 30 second time exposure inside showing the detail that is accomplished by this phenomenon.  The couple sitting on the bench are friends, Robert and Barbara Gosney, with whom we made the trip to Raleigh to visit the park associated with the museum.  To learn more about the Camera Obscura, click on this link: http://brightbytes.com/cosite/what.html
